Both cancer and many treatments for cancer can cause a deficiency of red blood cells. When one’s red blood cell count is low, he/she can experience fatigue, muscle weakness, shortness of breath, dizziness, irregular heartbeat, and cold body temperature. There are 5 main ingredients necessary for the production of red blood cells: vitamins B6, B9 (folate), B12, copper, and iron.
B vitamins are also necessary for adequate nerve function. Deficiency of vitamins B6 and B12 can worsen the effect of chemo induced peripheral neuropathy. This product contains 1 mg of B12 which can help support red blood cell production and minimize the severity of peripheral neuropathy.
It is important to note that too much vitamin B12 (toxicity) can be harmful. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that you ask your doctor to test your vitamin B12 level before starting on this product. The standard reference range for vitamin B12 is 200-1100 pg/ml. Your target value should be between 800 and 900. If it is less than 500, take 1 chewable, once a day with food. Also, because of the antioxidant effects of B vitamins, it is recommended to avoid this product 1 week before, during, and for 4 weeks after radiation.
