Both cancer and many treatments for cancer can cause a deficiency of red blood cells. When one’s red blood cell count is low, he/she can experience fatigue, muscle weakness, shortness of breath, dizziness, irregular heartbeat, and cold body temperature. There are 5 main ingredients necessary for the production of red blood cells: vitamins B6, B9 (folate), B12, copper, and iron.
B vitamins are also necessary for adequate nerve function. Deficiency of vitamins B6 and B12 can worsen the effect of chemo induced peripheral neuropathy. This product contains 50 mg of B6 which can help support red blood cell production and minimize the severity of peripheral neuropathy.
It is important to note that too much vitamin B6 (toxicity) can be harmful. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that you ask your doctor to check your current serum level before starting on this product, as toxicity of B vitamins can be harmful. The general reference range for vitamin B6 is between 10 and 140 ng/ml. Your target lab value should be between 90 and 120 ng/ml. If your value is below 70, take 1 capsule per day, after food. Also, because of the antioxidant effects of B vitamins, it is recommended to avoid this product 1 week before, during, and 4 weeks after radiation.
